HistoryThe area for Bloomfield Hospital was first dedicated as a site for a mental hospital on 29 October 1898. The hospital was officially opened on 6 November 1925, by the Minister for Health, Mr George Cann. When the hospital first opened it was consisted of six wards, staff dining room, office, Nurse's home, Dr Hilliard's (Superintendent) and Mr Toole's (Manager) residences, all built along the entrance road.
By 1932, twenty-three wards had been finished, the total number of buildings on the site numbered 52.
