HistoryA new Maternity Ward was opened on the Anson Street frontage of the Orange Base Hospital grounds on 19 September 1946 by the Governor General, HRH the Duke of Gloucester. The ward proved a total of twenty beds, eight being public and the remainder being intermediate and private beds.
A new wing was added in 1959, named the ‘Camlin Wing’ in memory of the late Mr G W (William) Camlin who had served as hospital secretary for 27 years. The new wing comprised four intermediate wards containing ten beds, bathrooms, a nursery and offices. It was officially opened on 6 June 1959, by his widow, Mrs Dolly Camlin, a life member of the Hospital Auxiliary.
