On the afternoon of 15 June 1862, a coach laden with 2,719 ounces (77kg) of gold worth £14,000 plus £3700 cash, enroute from the Lachlan diggings near Forbes to Sydney. The coach ws held up by eleven bushrangers. Among them were Frank Gardiner, Ben Hall, John Gilbert, John O’Meally, Alexander Fordyce, John Bow, Dan Charters, and Henry Manns. There had never been such an audacious robbery in Australia’s history.
