HistoryA recreational facility was effectively created in 1862 when part of the open space now known as Wade Park was laid aside as a cricket ground It was the first attempt by the new Council to provide sporting facilities in Orange. This park was not officially dedicated until 1910 during the jubilee celebrations. It remained in use as a cricket ground and football oval with new fields and facilities laid out in 1925.
The tradition of cricket and football has continued. Greyhound racing commenced at Wade Park in the 1930s, although significant facilities did not arrive until much later, including the 1977 grandstand and the spectator mounds, electronic scoreboard and judging box and lights in the 1980s.
